Ryder Buck 1990-2013

Ryder Buck, a rising star in the Los Angeles music scene, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2012. He fought for a year, all the while writing songs and being inspired by the songs of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and was declared a cancer survivor in the summer of 2013.

Ryder celebrated his clean bill-of-health with his Glendale Community College classmates that July, on his first trip to Bali. During his visit and thereafter he considered Bali his personal Paradise and he vowed to return to help teach English and share his gift of Music. Before he could realize this dream, Ryder was struck by a car and died on October 27, 2013 at the age of 23.

His original music lives on, as recorded by Ryder and his band, Ryder Buck and the Breakers. Future releases include lead vocals by his younger brother Reed in honor of Ryder.

Honoring Ryder’s memory, this language program is a testament to his message “Live and Love.” It is our hope and the hope of his family that the children who attend and complete this program will spread that message far and wide and live Ryder’s legacy in the World.
